New Journal 47 – Writing an E-book and making plans

As some of you may know, I’ve been in the process of writing an ebook for about 9 months. Progress has been slow. It’s going to be an HDR guide teaching everything from Luminance masks to tone mapping with 3 different programs. My aim is to make it the most comprehensive HDR reference manual in the world.

One of the biggest challenges I face is finishing the book in the next 3 months while also trying to create some form of adventure for myself. I find it difficult to sit still for very long. I’m like an annoying kid who can’t listen to the teacher for longer than 2 seconds. I need to know that there’s something exciting just around the corner.

I’ll be based in the UK for the next 3 months. It’ll be the first solid base we’ve had for a long time. I think, to get the best of both worlds, I’m going to have to make regular short trips to Europe in that. At the moment I’m shortlisting a few places where I desperately want to go.

After writing the book, we’ll have 3 or 4 months before we move to Korea where Rachel will take up teaching again. I’ll have a year to explore Asia. Now that’s what I call exciting!

Today’s Photo – The Seattle Skyline at Sunset

This was a fairly easy image to process. After subtly blending 3 exposures, I blended in two extra lower exposures that had some cool light trails. Since the shot I originally took was too warm, I had to colour correct in PS using a Color Balance layer. Basically I increased the blues in both the hightlights and midtones, which turned the peach horizon to a pink and the rest of the sky to a more accurate blue.

Jimmy, can you also try to write ebook for “how to use photoshop Jimmy’s way”. I’d be the first buyer, seriously.
